The Everyday Cupcake

I have always enjoyed baking and have done it forever! Like a lot of people I learned primarily from my mom. We would make the staple treats like brownies, bars (a midwest tradition), and of course cupcakes, The cupcakes were always the messiest because they have thinner batter that needs to be expertly poured into each of the cupcake liners. As a child I wasn't great at this part of the baking. I would often spill some of the batter down the sides of the bowl and outside of the cupcake liner.
If you have ever made a batch of cupcakes before you know how misshapen a cupcake can get if it starts sticking to the pan. These cupcakes are set to cool with the others, but you know deep down that they are not going to make it to the bake sale. We have a bit of an obsession with putting only our best products at the front, because we want everyone to see the fruits of our hard work. I am telling you here today that the misshapen cupcakes that you have made are just as indicative of your efforts as the bakery perfect cupcake that took hours to perfect.
In my family we have a tradition of calling these imperfect treats "everyday cupcakes" because they are the kind of normal treats that don't have to be preserved for a special occasion. You can enjoy these cupcakes immediately and in the comfort of you own kitchen. My fondest memory of baking with my mom is selecting the perfectly imperfect cupcake to try after hours of baking and frosting. This was the first taste of our treats and it was a magic and simple moment.
Your hard work isn't always going to end in something pretty, but it can still bring some joy and sweetness into your day!
See you soon,
