Baking for Fall

One of the best parts of the Fall season is the signature flavors that start to appear! We see them in everything from coffee to candles to our baked goods. When the weather starts to get chilly comfort food is often a move in the right direction. In this blog we are going to talk about how to expand your Fall flavor profile to bring your homemade desserts to the next level.

Cinnamon is usually the name of the game in Fall baking, but did you know that there are literally thousands of flavor combinations that can be used to make the perfect aromatic blend of warmth and sweetness. It can be hard to know what each of the spices add to a recipe, so we have a quick summary of our favorite fall spices below.

Cinnamon is actually a slightly bitter spice with a substantial heat to it.

Nutmeg provides a subtle warm and sweet flavor that can freshen a rich and heavy dessert.

Clove has a bolder heat to it so much in fact that it can numb the inside of your mouth.

Ginger is citrusy and earthy at the same time. It often enhances the flavors around it, since it is so versatile.

Cardamom has a pine and fruity taste to it, but can become overpowering if you use too much.

Star of Anise is sweet and has a licorice flavor. Using the whole Star of Anise creates a nice aesthetic if you want to take some artsy photos of your baking expedition

Turmeric has become a superfood in recent years. While it has numerous health benefits it also provides your food with a strong bitter and earthy flavor.

While our pumpkin spice mixture remains a secret that you can buy in our store. We encourage you all to experiment with these spices to create your own blend!

See you soon,
